The South Asian Friendship Center exists to be a positive and active presence in the heart of Chicago\u2019s Little India neighborhood, while proclaiming the uniqueness of Christ in Word and Deed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The South Asian Friendship began out a labor of prayer and love. We first opened our doors in 1997 and have been meeting the unique needs of our community since then. Our strategic location in the heart of Chicago\u2019s Little India gives us the opportunity to serve the immigrants and refugees in our community. The SAFC is also a destination for local and international churches, ministries, and organizations who wish to receive training in how to reach and serve immigrants and refugees with the love of Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During times of great crises, such as natural disasters or persecution, the South Asian Friendship Center is a conduit of aid to affected areas. In addition to this, a number of our staff are involved in ongoing work- helping to equip, train, and empower others around the world through the use of new media. In this way we are like Paul in Acts 17, having both boots in the marketplace and voices in the air.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chicago\u2019s Little India is an ethnically distinct residential and commercial community along Devon Avenue. Historically, the neighborhood has undergone a variety of changes in its 140-year history. First known in the 1850s as Church Road, Devon Avenue became the main shopping area for Chicago\u2019s Jewish community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the influx of South Asian immigrants in the late 1970s, the neighborhood has now become affectionately known as \u201cLittle India.\u201d Because it caters to South Asian culture and tastes, our unique marketplace draws visiting Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs from around the world!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
